Fire Features and Infinity Pools

Pool Features for Residential Properties

Fire features and infinity edges add visual interest to pools and outdoor spaces. Infinity pools create a visual effect where water appears to extend to the horizon. Fire features like bowls, pits, and linear burners provide light and ambiance around the pool area. Both require proper engineering and installation to function correctly.

Fluidity Pool Designs designs and builds fire features and infinity edge pools for residential properties. These features require specific engineering, quality components, and experienced installation. We’ve been building them for over 15 years and understand the technical requirements involved.

  • Infinity edge pools engineered for your specific site and views
  • Fire bowls, fire pits, and linear fire features
  • Gas systems installed to code with proper safety features

    Our Fire and Infinity Services

Here’s an overview of what we offer for these specialty features.

    Infinity Edge Design and Engineering

Infinity edges require careful engineering to achieve the intended visual effect. The edge height, water flow rate, catch basin size, and pump capacity all need to be calculated for your specific site. We design infinity edges based on your property’s terrain, the views you want to emphasize, and where you’ll be viewing the pool from.

    Fire Feature Design and Installation

Fire features require proper gas line sizing, burner selection, ignition systems, and safety components. We design fire features considering placement, wind patterns, proximity to seating areas, and integration with your overall pool design. We install gas systems to code and use components rated for outdoor use.

    Integration With Pool Construction

When building a new pool with infinity edges or fire features, we integrate these elements from the start. Catch basins are built alongside the main pool structure. Gas lines are roughed in during construction. This approach is more efficient and produces better results than adding features later.

    Retrofits and Additions

We can add fire features to existing pools in many cases. Adding an infinity edge to an existing pool is more complex and may not be feasible depending on the pool’s structure and site conditions. We assess each situation and provide honest recommendations.

    Types of Features We Build

We design and build various fire and water features.

    Infinity Edge Pools

Pools with one or more edges where water flows over into a catch basin below, creating the visual effect of water extending to the horizon. The catch basin collects the water and pumps it back into the main pool. These work well on properties with views or elevation changes.

    Perimeter Overflow Pools

Pools where water overflows on all four sides, creating a mirror-like surface. These require catch basins around the entire perimeter and precise leveling. More complex than single-edge infinity pools.

    Fire Bowls

Bowl-shaped fire features that sit on pedestals, walls, or pool edges. Available in various sizes and materials, including copper, concrete, steel, and stone. Gas-fed for reliable ignition.

    Linear Fire Features

Horizontal flame lines are built into walls, raised bond beams, or freestanding structures. These create a linear fire effect along a surface.

    Fire and Water Walls

Combination features with fire above and water cascading below. Requires engineering to keep the fire and water systems separate and functioning properly.

    Scupper Fire Features

Fire bowls that also spill water into the pool, combining fire and water in one feature.

    Fire Pits and Outdoor Fireplaces

Freestanding or built-in fire features for gathering areas near the pool. Available in gas or wood-burning options.

Curious What Would Look Best in Your Space?

    Our Process

Here’s how we approach fire and infinity feature projects.

    Step 1: Site Evaluation

We visit your property to assess conditions. For infinity edges, we look at terrain, views, and viewing angles. For fire features, we consider wind patterns, placement options, and proximity to seating and structures.

    Step 2: Design

We create detailed plans showing how features will be built. Infinity edges require engineering calculations for edge height, flow rate, catch basin sizing, and pump specifications. Fire features require gas line routing, burner specifications, and ignition system details.

    Step 3: Permitting

Fire features require gas permits. Infinity pools require structural engineering approval. We handle the documentation and approval process.

    Step 4: Construction

For new pools, infinity edge construction is integrated with the main pool build. Catch basins are built alongside the pool. Gas lines for fire features are roughed in during construction.

    Step 5: Installation

Fire features are installed with gas connections, ignition systems, and safety shutoffs. Infinity edge systems are balanced and adjusted for even water flow.

    Step 6: Testing

We test all systems and make adjustments as needed. Fire features are tested for reliable ignition and consistent flame. Infinity edges are calibrated for proper water level and flow.

Isn’t It Time Your Pool Became an Asset Instead of a Headache?

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an infinity edge pool cost?

Every project is custom, so costs vary based on size, features, site conditions, and materials. We provide detailed estimates after understanding your specific requirements during the consultation.

Can you add an infinity edge to an existing pool?

Sometimes, but it’s a major renovation. We need to evaluate the pool’s structure, available space for a catch basin, and equipment capacity. In some cases, it makes more sense to build new. We assess each situation and provide honest recommendations.

How much do fire features cost?

Fire bowls typically run $2,500-$8,000 installed, depending on size and material. Linear fire features and fire walls vary based on length, from $5,000 for smaller installations to $25,000 or more for larger features. Gas line installation adds to the cost if not already present.

Are fire features safe around pools?

Yes, when properly designed and installed. We position features away from splash zones, use appropriate clearances from seating areas, and install safety shutoffs. Gas systems are built to code.

What maintenance do infinity edges require?

The catch basin needs periodic cleaning to remove debris. The leveling weir may need occasional adjustment. Pump baskets need cleaning like any pool equipment. Maintenance is similar to standard pools.

Do fire features work in windy conditions?

Wind affects all fire features, but proper design minimizes the impact. We position features to take advantage of natural windbreaks and size burners for stability. Extreme wind may require shutting features off temporarily.

How long do fire feature components last?

Quality burners last 10-15 years or more. Gas valves and ignition systems last similar periods with minimal maintenance. Decorative elements last indefinitely with proper care.

Can fire features be controlled with pool automation?

Yes. We can integrate fire features with pool automation systems so you can control them from one app or panel along with lights, spa jets, and other features.
